 is a series of three Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) centered around a heartwarming coming-of-age story, deep alchemy-based crafting, and dynamic real-time battles. 

Gameplay Mechanics
The core gameplay loop across all three games involves gathering ingredients in various fields, using those ingredients to synthesize items, and using the crafted items to progress the story and aid in combat. 
  • Alchemy/Synthesis: The crafting system is highly praised for its depth and is central to character progression, often more so than traditional leveling. Players use different materials with varying elemental values, traits, and qualities to unlock new effects and create powerful gear, weapons, and consumables.
  • Combat: The games feature an Active Time Battle (ATB) system that incorporates real-time elements, requiring quick decision-making. Players build up action points (AP) to use skills or increase their Tactics Level, which grants access to more powerful abilities. Proper use of crafted items is crucial for success, especially in challenging boss fights.
  • Exploration: The series encourages extensive exploration to find materials. Later games in the trilogy introduce new field actions like swimming, climbing, and riding a mount to expand the scope of exploration. 

Story Overview
The trilogy follows the journey of Reisalin "Ryza" Stout, an ordinary, tomboyish girl from Kurken Island, and her circle of friends as they grow from teenagers into young adults through a series of memorable summer adventures. 
  • Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout: Ryza, bored with her mundane village life, sneaks onto a forbidden island with her friends, where they encounter an alchemist who teaches Ryza the basics of alchemy. This discovery launches them on an adventure to uncover the secrets of their home island and a mysterious darkness lurking beneath it.
  • Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy: Set three years after the first game, a more mature Ryza travels to the royal capital, where she reunites with old friends and explores ancient ruins to uncover the truth behind lost legends and a mysterious creature named Fi.
  • Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key: In her final summer adventure, Ryza and her friends must investigate a mysterious group of islands that have appeared near their home, leading them to a grand mystery about the origins of alchemy and the "Code of the Universe".
